Review of Guy Savoy Paris Michelin Star Restaurant
During our recent Paris visit, we ate at Restaurant Guy Savoy – Monnaie de Paris, the eponymous restaurant named after Chef Guy Savoy, who has been named by La Liste as the best chef in the world for the last six (6) years. To learn more about our trip check out our 3-night Paris Itinerary.
The restaurant which overlooks the Seine, has held three Michelin stars since 2002 but earlier in 2023 the latest Michelin guide downgraded the restaurant to 2 stars reportedly because of continuous difficulties facing the industry as a result of the pandemic.
About the Restaurant
- Location: Monnaie de Paris
- Menus: A la carte menu or set menu **Check our photo gallery below for photos of the menu
- Price: €630/person 13+ course set menu **We didn’t have time for the set menu so we went a la carte for our meal
- Decor: The decor of the restaurants is exceptional. The restaurant is divided into six dining rooms, each adorned with contemporary paintings, sculptures, and old-fashioned windows that overlook the Seine
- Service: Upon entering the restaurant for lunch we were greeted by Chef Guy. This sets the tone for the type of service you receive. The staff is incredibly attentive and knowledgeable and they see to every aspect of your experience. For each of the six dining rooms, there are dedicated staff members stationed in each room to ensure that there is no delay in service and that someone is constantly available to provide more food, drinks, etc if they even perceive you’re running low. The service is definitely one of the highlights of your dining experience.
- Food: We had their signature artichoke soup with truffle (paired with the most delicious brioche spread with truffle butter), veal, truffle lentils, open mille-feuille, vanilla bean and salted caramel ice cream, and blood cherry sorbet. Throughout the meal, various other complementary dishes were presented to our table including their visually stunning small peas dish. Not every dish was a knock-out but for those that were, it was easy to understand why this restaurant has been a top choice for fine dining lovers for more than 2 decades now.
- Favorite Bite: Believe it or not, out of everything we ate, our favorite had to be the homemade sweet brioche we were given to take home at the end of our meal.
- Chef Guy Savoy: Chef is charismatic and engaging. Before heading out, Chef Guy came by our table to discuss our meal and graciously gave us a look into their kitchen.
Final Thoughts: The restaurant has exceptional service and is generous in its portions as we had to turn down offers of more soup, lentils, brioche, etc should we desire. The unique fine dining experience put forth by the restaurant makes it a place to visit if not just once.
